Just What Does a Fire Safe Council Do?

The Mt. Pinos Communities Fire Safe Council serves the communities of Lebec, Los Padres Estates, Frazier Park, Gorman, Lake of the Woods, Cuddy Valley, Pinion Pines, Lockwood Valley, Pine Mountain Club, Camp Shydeck.

The mission of the Mt. Pinos Communities Fire Safe Council is to safeguard the people of our communities and their property from the effects of catastrophic wildfire through education, cooperation, innovation, and action.

We do this through community-wide events, like our recent poster contest for local school children. (Click here for a look at some of the terrific entries!)

We also participated in the Day Fire celebration, distributing DVDs and other literature. The Chamber of Commerce, Mountain Enterprise, and the Town Council sponsors of this event donated part of the proceeds to the Fire Safe Council.

About donating to the FSC.

Our goal is to make sure everyone living on the mountain has an opportunity to learn about making their homes and their communities fire safe. Further, we are planning hazardous fuel clearance projects in various communities. Our first one was funded by the US Forest Service for next year. The clearance efforts will provide a fuel break behind the community of Lake of the Woods. It will eventually meet up with other fuel clearance projects the USFS is also doing.

How do I get Involved?

We very much need volunteers with good ideas and a willingness to implement them. We could do a lot more if we had more folks join us. We meet the third Friday of the month at 9:30 am at the Chuchupate Ranger Station conference room, located at 34580 Lockwood Valley Road. The phone number at the ranger station is 661.245.3731.
